Brief History

Chinmaya Mission Beaumont covers Texas’s Golden Triangle, which is comprised of three small cities: Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange.

In the mid-1980s, Dr. Rajaram Patil started attending Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda’s talks and introduced Chinmaya Mission to several families in the area. He soon invited Acharyas Gaurang and Darshana Nanavatyto conduct satsangs and Bala Vihar classes in his residence. The programs were discontinued, as the community was too small at that time. With the continuing rise in the Indian population, an Indian associationwas soon formed in southeast Texas, and a community center was built in 1995.

When Subrah and Shyamala Cheruvu moved into the Golden Triangle in 1996,with Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda’s blessings and the support of various community members, regular weekly classes for children/teens(Chinmaya Bala Vihar) and adults began under the formal name of Chinmaya Mission Beaumont. To date, classes continue throughout the year except in the summer.

A formal working committee was formed and approved by Pujya Guruji in 2006. CM Beaumont hosts 2-3 jnana yajnas annually. CM acharyas who have visited and blessed the community to date are: Pujya Guruji; Pujya Swamini Saradapriyananda; Acharya Gaurang Nanavaty; Swamis Ishwarananda, Shanatananda, Nikhilananda, Sharanananda, and Prakashananda; and Brahmacharis Uddhav and Prabodh Chaitanya.

Over the years, CM Beaumont has funded the construction of a CM orphanage in Andhra Pradesh and CORD Sidhabari. With the blessings of Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda,

Head of Chinmaya Mission Worldwide, the center incorporated in 2008 and purchased property in Beaumont on February 5, 2009. The 2.4-acre lot has a 2,100 sq. ft., three-bedroom house, a 2,400 sq. ft. metal building, and 1.5 acres of open land. Mission activities will shift to the new location after completing code requirements.

However in 2010, With our lord’s grace, Gurudev’s  blessings, and endless interest of our devotees, Chinmaya Mission Beaumont acquired 6 acres of property along south major drive and planned for a temple project called “Chinmaya Shripati”. This project included 15,000 Sq feet building that accommodates The Temple, Balvihar classrooms Yajna hall, and Acharaya Quarters. Boomi puja was performed by Poojya Swami Shantanandji  on Oct ,2010. On the auspicious day of 23rd April 2012 “Ishtika” pooja was performed in by poojya Swami Sarveshanadaji and construction started on the same day.
